Waning gibbous moon emoji meaning

The waning gibbous moon emoji is a graphical representation of the phase of the moon as it appears in the sky when the illuminated part of the moon is decreasing or "waning" and more than half but less than fully illuminated. This phase occurs when the Moon is located between a full moon and a third quarter moon. In this phase, the Moon appears as more than half but less than fully lit, the shape of the lit portion is not a perfect semicircle, giving a gibbous shape, but this time it is the opposite side that is lit compared to the waxing gibbous. This emoji can be used to indicate the progress of the lunar phase, or to represent the idea of declining, or to indicate a specific date in a lunar-based calendar.
